If Luís Caeiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Armindo Salgado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Gaona in the 12th minute of play. The supporters of Mexico booed when VB-Team was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arthur Guerra didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Mexico getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Felix Luque hit a great ball. Mexico's Dante Lacasa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save Mexico from getting a goal against them. Lautaro Mancebo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Armindo Salgado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mexico's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Joel Gaona in the 35th minute. A nice corner shot did that Luca Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Armindo Salgado quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Gervásio Severiano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Dante Lacasa made a huge save. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joaquim de Barros in the 40th minute of play. 46 minutes into the game, Lautaro Mancebo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Armindo Salgado was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Mexico were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Joel Gaona stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Lautaro Mancebo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 50th minute of the match, but Armindo Salgado made a huge save. Gervásio Severiano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dante Lacasa having to interfere. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Caeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. In the 63rd minute Luís Caeiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joaquim de Barros in the 66th minute of play.
