After 21 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Costa Rica! Costa Rica:s Benito Sanz showed great skill when he stopped Denis Gergori:s penalty. Denis Gergori scored 0-2 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Davide Di Tommaso came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Davide Di Tommaso couldn't finish the play. Daniel Olejarz's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Daniel Olejarz helped the player get up and apologised. In the 43rd match minute, ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Daniel Olejarz to maneuver through the defense. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ the free kick. In the 68th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aaron Alcocer to maneuver through the defense. Leonardo Penha struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Juan Rubio hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Olejarz in the 85th minute of play. Benito Sanz was out of position in the 87 minute of play, and Davide Di Tommaso capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Davide Di Tommaso really showed his touch with that goal: 0-5. In the 91st minute, Leonardo Penha reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Benito Sanz. The goal made the score 0-6. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Davide Di Tommaso in the 93rd minute of play. After 94 played minutes Davide Di Tommaso rounded Costa Rica's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 0-7. After 96 minutes, Abel Carballo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ players grew even worse after the yellow card.
