In the 10th minute, Teofil Sobczak ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marco Day was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. With an all-out effort, USA's Gavino Raymundo threw himself towards the right post 13 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Monty Rogers, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Gavino Raymundo made a fantastic save in the 16th minute, when Cassius Byrne sent off a good shot on target. USA's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Cassius Byrne in the 22nd minute. It was a well-played corner which Edward Mcdonald managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. If Edward Mcdonald had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 28 minutes into the game, Monty Rogers recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Gavino Raymundo. Monty Rogers showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-1. Gavino Raymundo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Monty Rogers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Teofil Sobczak might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marco Day. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. In the 44th minute, Diego Bradley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.
