Yan Fossati showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 6th minute of the match. If Alberto Hofstetter had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 11 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montes. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 11th minute, when Alexander Bettinelli sent off a good shot on target. Alberto Hofstetters short, quick shot in the 13thth minute got Julio Vera to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 28th minute of play forced Brütten's goalkeeper Yan Fossati to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 30th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edward Zbytniewski, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 36 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Yan Fossati. Brütten's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Zorita was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The wind increased when Edward Zbytniewski made the kick off in the second half. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Yan Fossati firmly grabbed it by the left post. An unexpected shot in the 56th minute by Daniel Zorita got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side.
