After a defensive mix-up in La Scaloneta's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dibag Martinez came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 18 minutes into the game, Luis Andino was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave La Scaloneta the free kick. After 18 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Luis Andino. Dibag Martinez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 22nd minute of the match. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Dibag Martinez quite easily take care of the ball. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leandro Paredes in the 26th minute of play. When Giovani Lo Celso was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 29 minutes had been played. La Scaloneta's supporters crossed their fingers, but Julián Álvarez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 88 minutes into the match, La Scaloneta's goalkeeper Dibag Martinez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dibag Martinez having to interfere. La Scaloneta's Dibag Martinez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 94th minute of the match, managed to save La Scaloneta from getting a goal against them. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than La Scaloneta throughout the match.
