But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. Ecuador's attentive Antonio Arias managed to snatch the ball when Olaf Ciempa made a throw-in in the 19th minute of the game. Camilo Gisbert made in the 24th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Luis Andino however managed to control. Loco De la Maza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 28th minute of play. Gianluca Vialli received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Loco De la Maza read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. In the 33rd minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Urbano Shantala might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Urbano Shantala ran back to his position shaking his head. After 45 played minutes Falckner FC got a freekick which was hit by Damaso Inge. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. Falckner FC's Loco De la Maza proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save Falckner FC from getting a goal against them. After 52 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montenegro. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 62 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gianluca Vialli came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gianluca Vialli, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Loco De la Maza didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Gianluca Vialli kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. In the 76th match minute, Falckner FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Damaso Inge to maneuver through the defense. Daniel Zorita, 77 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After 79 played minutes Falckner FC got a freekick which was hit by Julien Steuble. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 81st minute of the match, but Loco De la Maza made a huge save. 82 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gianluca Vialli came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Loco De la Maza having to interfere. In the 89th minute, Agustín Saelices hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 91 minutes into the game, Falckner FC's Gianluca Vialli nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Julio Vera made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. When the referee blew the final whistle, Falckner FC could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
