Julio Vera had in the 84thth minute some difficulties stopping Angel Osasun's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Amadeo Carrizo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Yunior Olegario during the 92nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
