After 10 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Gerardo Pozo. Xavier Figueroa was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Thiago Pliego made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Clay Heath in the 42nd minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Paz Gledden stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Pedro Indiano fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Chile's protests and gave Pedro Indiano a yellow card for diving instead. After 94 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Indiano. Mariano Lacasa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Erlend Sørby read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 98th minute of play.
