In the 17th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 20th minute Sliema Dragons FC were awarded a corner. Leszek Cupial went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led to Sliema Dragons FC's Giovanni Demicoli getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 24th minute of the match Sliema Dragons FC got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Leszek Cupial ran over to the corner to take the kick. Sliema Dragons FC's Leszek Cupial was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julio Vera in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute of play forced Sliema Dragons FC's goalkeeper Mike Axisa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kim Bolas in the 34th minute of play. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Mike Axisa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Primitivo Andino got a throw-in 39 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Felix Montenegro. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Kim Bolas made a kick off. In the 50th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Thanks to some nice moves Felix Montenegro could shoot a difficult shot in the 58th minute, which Mike Axisa however easily saved by the left post. Mike Axisa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Mike Axisa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 68th minute, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Mike Axisa. Mike Axisa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-1. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dejan Cassar in the 78th minute of play. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dejan Cassar's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. In the 81stth minute of the game Dejan Cassar who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When the match had gone on for 83 minutes, Dejan Cassar put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Julio Vera. Mike Axisa made a fantastic save in the 86th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. 88 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gábor Illés came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dejan Cassar's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play.
