If Joaquim Paredes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joaquim Paredes in the 27th minute of play forced Colombia's goalkeeper Pedro Manzanares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Axel Montenegro in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Samuel Fiúza saved Gremio Viana from getting behind. Samuel Fiúza didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Abram Sarmiento went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joaquim Paredes to strike the kick off in the second half. Gremio Viana's Amado Melo quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Luis Cazalla, made in the 57th minute of the game. Gremio Viana's Joaquim Paredes got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Luis Cazalla made in the 64th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Pascual Carballar immediately put the ball in play. Carlos Luna scored 3-4 in the 66th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Pedro Manzanares, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Gremio Viana made a substitution. Mohamed Ali Bomba replaced Severino Torcato. Pedro Manzanares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Luna in the 76th minute of play. After 77 minutes Colombia's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Augustin Panaiteanu who took care of the corner kick. At last the ball reached Mariusz Lamczyk at the corner, ending with a kick to difficult to stop for the goalkeeper of Colombia. 4-4. The supporters of Gremio Viana booed when Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luis Cazalla didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Antonio Calisto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Pedro Manzanares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Luna, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Ignacio Mastache scored 4-5 in the 91st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Samuel Fiúza, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
