The audience was convinced that Frans Hökkvist's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 35th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Bagarmossen's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tor Fredriksson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. After 47 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ecuador! Thomás Nickerson shot the penalty kick right outside the post.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Frans Hökkvist to strike the kick off in the second half. If Frans Hökkvist had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 62 minutes into the match, Thomás Nickerson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Bagarmossen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gert Vik didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
