Luz Tejedor was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Through an outstanding action, after 88 minutes, Camilo Salvidor successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Primitivo Rocendo in the 95th minute of play. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
