Isidoro Frutos came out of the goal and Jaime Pardo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Paraguay's Jaime Pardo in the 37th minute got a chance for a shot 37th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Argentino de Merlo's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jaime Pardo in the 41st minute of play forced Argentino de Merlo's goalkeeper Isidoro Frutos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 42 minutes of play, Paraguay's Primitivo Escribano made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Isidoro Frutos was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 45th minute Hector Covarrubias shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Isidoro Frutos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Paraguay were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Zeledon Oso stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Hector Covarrubias fell near the penalty area in the 65th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Paraguay's protests and gave Hector Covarrubias a yellow card for diving instead. In the 65th minute, Hector Covarrubias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Argentino de Merlo getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Zeledon Oso hit a great ball. In the 70th minute, Jaime Pardo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Argentino de Merlo's Basilio Urtun was substituted for Atilano Salomone. Argentino de Merlo's Fernan Naike was substituted for Zacarias Milian. In the 72nd match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jaime Pardo to maneuver through the defense. If Zeledon Oso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The penalty shot was made by Marcelino Salamon, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Paraguay's Jacobo Nores. 4-3. Many of Paraguay's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Paraguay may have spent more time on the ball, but Argentino de Merlo were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
