In the 18th minute Lautaro Mancebo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tony Chaves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tony Chaves was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. SE Palestra Itália's Tony Chaves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joel Gaona in the 42nd minute of play. Alberto Tafalla sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Mexico booed when SE Palestra Itália was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bruno Campon didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tony Chaves came out of the goal in the 71st minute to try and stop a shot by Mexico's Joel Gaona. But to his dismay, Joel Gaona quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. Luca Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Tony Chaves having to make a save. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Betão Vargas, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. 82 minutes into the match, Alberto Tafalla had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tony Chaves. SE Palestra Itália's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alberto Tafalla was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-5. In the 97th minute, Facundo Cadaval hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Adalberto Custódio came up free with the goalie in the 98th minute, the SE Palestra Itália fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adalberto Custódio couldn't finish the play. Mexico's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
