But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Estacio Miñon couldn't finish the play. A collision led to New Team getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Vilson Ibarguen hit a great ball. Martinez Eguilaz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mateo Leguizamo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ricardo Zorita was out of position in the 11 minute of play, and Venerando Rosines capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Venerando Rosines really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. After some careless play in the New Team defense, Moises Fernandino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Martinez Eguilaz. The New Team fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Martinez Eguilaz should have stopped the shot. A throw-in in the 19th minute of the game was made by Alvaro Rascuro with Leonardo Gox as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. The referee felt a red card was in order, 24 minutes into the game, when Marin Tejerina put in a rough tackle. In the 32nd minute Venerando Rosines shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ricardo Zorita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Venerando Rosines managed to get in a good position for a shot. New Team's supporters rose to their feet, but Venerando Rosines was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ricardo Zorita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Venerando Rosines struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Ricardo Zorita didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for New Team. After the first half El Salvador were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Venerando Rosines stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the match, New Team's goalkeeper Martinez Eguilaz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Moises Fernandino.
