The supporters of Uruguay booed when Atlético Municipal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isac Ţiriac didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 5th minute Jaime Cazalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chuan Cintron saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Oscar De León managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atlético Municipal's supporters rose to their feet, but Oscar De León was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joaquin Gayoso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Joaquin Gayoso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Oscar De León in the 14th minute. After 15 minutes of play, Atlético Municipal's Oscar De León made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Joaquin Gayoso was left in no man's land by his defense there! Claude Sena could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Willie Colon in the 23rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Joaquin Gayoso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 25 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Willie Colon. 25 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Oscar De León came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 26th match minute, Atlético Municipal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andoni Viguri to maneuver through the defense. Claude Sena kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. Joaquin Gayoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oscar De León in the 32nd minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Oscar De León's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joaquin Gayoso was relentless in the 33rd minute of the game. Oscar De León could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. The corner ended in Claude Sena almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso did a great save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Claude Sena in the 45th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 46 played minutes Uruguay got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Covarrubias. Claude Sena struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Joaquin Gayoso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Atlético Municipal. Atlético Municipal's Silvanito Gainza was substituted for Azubeli Roman. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

55 minutes into the game, Atlético Municipal's Willie Colon nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joaquin Gayoso made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. Joaquin Gayoso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Willie Colon's shot from short distance in the 59th minute. 63 minutes into the game, Willie Colon cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 6-0. Joaquin Gayoso was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a defensive mix-up in Uruguay's zone, Oscar De León stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joaquin Gayoso came out of the goal and Oscar De León tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alberto Gisbert charged in rather forcefully in the 70th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alberto Gisbert the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Alberto Gisbert hit a great ball. In the 71st minute, Bruno Beldad hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Willie Colon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Joaquin Gayoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Joaquin Gayoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Willie Colon, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. Atlético Municipal's Chuan Cintron proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save Atlético Municipal from getting a goal against them. In the 78th minute the ball was on its way in behind Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Joaquin Gayoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Willie Colon in the 80th minute of play. Willie Colon recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Willie Colon might have been able to make a better finish in the 86th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joaquin Gayoso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Willie Colon ran back to his position shaking his head. Willie Colon took the ball and in the 87 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 7-0. Joaquin Gayoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Frank Dusett in the 93rd minute of the match. Uruguay's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
