Zé Paulo Zonta recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Thomas Vollmar in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Joaquin Gayoso saved Uruguay from getting behind. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Francisco Seco made a kick off. If Pankracy Malicki had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 53rd match minute, Newcastle United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Julian Obuchowicz to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that Thomas Vollmar's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joaquin Gayoso was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. Thomas Vollmar scored 5-0 in the 83rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Joaquin Gayoso, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Joaquin Gayoso didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Thomas Vollmar went, in the 90th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-0 was the resulting score. In the 95th minute, Pankracy Malicki hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Uruguay's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
