Everett Gerber might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Everett Gerber ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 57th minute, Felix Montes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 60 minutes into the match, Xurdin Pena notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Everett Gerber stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Everett Gerber tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Antonio Arias hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. Melandru de Cenero's Andrea Perez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 68th minute of play. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but Melandru de Cenero were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
