The supporters of Venezuela booed when Laykers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Diego Perazzolo didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 83rd minute Patricio Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Demetrio Greco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Demetrio Greco in the 91st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Laykers's zone, Patricio Costa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Demetrio Greco came out of the goal and Patricio Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
