Julio Vera was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Joaquim Carvalho showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 10 minute of play. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joaquim Carvalho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Salamanca UDS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kamel Espitalier didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
