The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nguyễn Phuoc during the 42nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zumar Villabona, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Hai Duong was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Hoang didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 87 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Cristian Sancho. Ecuador were furious when Camilo Gisbert was red carded, 91 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 91st minute of the game. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
