In the 8th minute, SoPpÅkArNa's Inge Askelöf dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Fredrik Bergman went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. The supporters of SoPpÅkArNa booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juan Rubio didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 16th minute of the match Nicola Noppe sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Benito Sanz skillfully saved the ball. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Inge Springfält in the 18th minute of play. After 42 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Juan Rubio. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Fredrik Bergman in the 43rd minute. 46 minutes into the game, Alexander Carballo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SoPpÅkArNa the free kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilmer Österlund in the 71st minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the SoPpÅkArNa defense, Axel Tasis kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joel Kruuse. The SoPpÅkArNa fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joel Kruuse should have stopped the shot. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rodrigo Granado in the 74th minute of play.
