Boğaç Altuncuoğlu who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 9thth minute tested the skills of Julio Vera when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 12 minutes, Jaime Eneko mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the San Lorenzo 11 and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to San Lorenzo 11 getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Jaime Eneko hit a great ball. San Lorenzo 11's Aurelio Astudillo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luis Andino in the 13th minute of play. Boğaç Altuncuoğlu did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Julio Vera 16 minutes into the match. Aurelio Astudillo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 22nd minute of the match. 29 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Quilo Lujarra. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aurelio Astudillo having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 35th minute of play forced San Lorenzo 11's goalkeeper Aurelio Astudillo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The goalkeeper smacked the ball away after a great corner, but Agustín Saelices advanced and headed the ball into goal, 2-1 in the 36th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. Cristian Sancho ran back to his position shaking his head. The attack was good, but when Cristian Sancho in the 68th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. With a little luck, San Lorenzo 11's Aurelio Astudillo got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 74th minute after San Lorenzo 11's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that San Lorenzo 11's Aurelio Astudillo managed to reach the ball for a save. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Aurelio Astudillo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 93rd minute of play. After 95 minutes, Daniel Zorita mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ecuador and the San Lorenzo 11 players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 95 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Zorita.
