The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Victorino Abeijon in the 4th minute. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when EL CELE FUTBOL CLUB was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nons Crossa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Severo Ereinotz having to interfere. Juan Rubio kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. A collision led to EL CELE FUTBOL CLUB getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Melquiades Ofelio hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 14 minutes, Lili Oddang took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Benito Sanz to make any attempt to save it. In the 23rd minute, Juan Rubio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Victorino Abeijon in the 24th minute. 29 minutes into the game, EL CELE FUTBOL CLUB's Victorino Abeijon nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Jeremias Venerando scored 3-0 in the 34th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 38 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jeremias Venerando. Jeremias Venerando fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Severo Ereinotz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Tasis, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Victorino Abeijon tried to sneak it across the goal line. Axel Tasis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lili Oddang to make the kick off. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nons Crossa, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Alan Moruga hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Lili Oddang stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Lili Oddang tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jeremias Venerando took the ball and in the 61 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-0. In the 64th minute Lili Oddang shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lautaro Puig's late challenge caught a EL CELE FUTBOL CLUB's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lautaro Puig helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig got a free kick in the 66th minute. If Lili Oddang had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lili Oddang fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. After 88 minutes of play, EL CELE FUTBOL CLUB's Lili Oddang made it 5-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! 91 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Jeremias Venerando came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Melquiades Ofelio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot.
