Spectators: 40 (Terracing: 31, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) 8 minutes into the match, Mercedes's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Augusto Ellande reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 10 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Manuel Morais came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 11th minute of the match Mercedes got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Anier Mon ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Mercedes's corner Melquiades Chinto fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 13th minute of play forced Mercedes's goalkeeper Augusto Ellande to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mercedes's Augusto Ellande played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 17th minute of play. If Felix Montenegro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 24 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Luis Andino. When Ecuador's Daniel Zorita in the 35th minute got a chance for a shot 35th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Mercedes's goalie prevented a goal. Alvaro Abar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. After a rather tough play, Mercedes's Santo Rumaldo got a free kick in the 43rd minute. 47 minutes into the game, Cristian Sancho cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Augusto Ellande was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Teodosio Eutor during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Mercedes getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Teodosio Eutor hit a great ball. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Mercedes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Santo Rumaldo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mercedes's Genaro Azibar was substituted for Melquiades Chinto. In the 58th match minute, Mercedes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Santo Rumaldo to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Manuel Morais in the 61st minute of play. In the 64th minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Augusto Ellande saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match clock showed 66 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Jan-Ivar Nordmo sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Daniel Zorita hit a great ball. Daniel Zorita had several of the Mercedes's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 75 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-2 score and a disappointed Augusto Ellande as he didn't even see the shot coming. When Mercedes's Manuel Morais in the 85th minute got a chance for a shot 85th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Manuel Morais kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Jan-Ivar Nordmo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 94th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
