In the 21st match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Montes to maneuver through the defense. 22 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luisito Antequera. In the 23rd minute Bray McJon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luisito Antequera got free with Julio Vera in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The audience was convinced that Daniel Zorita's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ronaldo Medeiros was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. If Luisito Antequera had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luisito Antequera stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
