The crowd rose to their feet as Korkut Şahbey kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Marcos Cotilla. That made the score 1-1 in the 23 minute of play. Ferruccio Scevola fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Cotilla having to interfere. Dwi Yuwana made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isidoro Sarmiento in the 35th minute of play. In the 37th minute Alex Cambeiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dwi Yuwana saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dwi Yuwana showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alex Cambeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Tomas Berganza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dwi Yuwana having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ferruccio Scevola in the 45th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. In the 69th minute, Matthew Garrido hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Ferruccio Scevola had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 74th minute Ferruccio Scevola shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Cotilla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Isidoro Sarmiento who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 76thth minute tested the skills of Dwi Yuwana when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Abraham Alguacil's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dwi Yuwana read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play. Dwi Yuwana was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Panama eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
