The audience was convinced that Valdemar Kuoppala's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Thiago Pliego was relentless in the 74th minute of the game. Rio Ferdinand lost his temper 78 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. 77 minutes into the game, one of Manchester United FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Edwin van der Sar had in the 80thth minute some difficulties stopping Mariano Lacasa's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, Mariano Lacasa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Chile's supporters rose to their feet, but Mariano Lacasa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edwin van der Sar breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 99th minute, Markus Vähäsavo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
