After a defensive mix-up in Guararapes's zone, Julian Murillo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Romeu Guedes came out of the goal and Julian Murillo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rolando Noboa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ragıp Işık in the 13th minute. Eliseo Mina received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Romeu Guedes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Milagros Fraga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 23rd match minute, Guararapes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Claudio Graziano to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the Guararapes defense, Julian Murillo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Romeu Guedes. The Guararapes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Romeu Guedes should have stopped the shot. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Julian Murillo to make the kick off. Milagros Fraga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romeu Guedes having to interfere. After 57 minutes of play, Peru's Julian Murillo made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. When Cristian Cordoba came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Guararapes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Cordoba couldn't finish the play. In the 93rd match minute, Guararapes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dida Pena to maneuver through the defense.
