Grêmio 20 Julho's Sylwester Zarobski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 5th minute of play. Tiaguinho Saldanha's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tiaguinho Saldanha helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Grêmio 20 Julho getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Tiaguinho Saldanha hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Valdir Cavalcante in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Valdir Cavalcante tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 22nd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sylwester Zarobski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sylwester Zarobski came out of the goal in the 22nd minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Cristian Sancho. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Valdemar de Amaral's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. 33 minutes had been played when some careless play by Grêmio 20 Julho's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Valdemar de Amaral struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio 20 Julho. The audience was convinced that Daniel Zorita's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sylwester Zarobski was relentless in the 39th minute of the game. The supporters of Grêmio 20 Julho booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gisbert didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 43rd minute Valdemar de Amaral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valdemar de Amaral, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jânio Pires in the 68th minute of the match. Grêmio 20 Julho's Sylwester Zarobski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 70th minute of play. Camilo Gisbert hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Sylwester Zarobski made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 76th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Valdemar de Amaral in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Grêmio 20 Julho were awarded a corner in the 79th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Humberto Soeiro took the corner. The corner led Grêmio 20 Julho's Humberto Soeiro to fire away a dangerous shot which Julio Vera despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 81st minute, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Sylwester Zarobski. Sylwester Zarobski yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valdemar de Amaral in the 83rd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Agustín Saelices got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 92nd match minute, Grêmio 20 Julho was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valdir Cavalcante to maneuver through the defense. Ecuador played a much better game than Grêmio 20 Julho and deserved their victory. The Grêmio 20 Julho players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
