Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Attilio Perna having to make a save. Graneros's Attilio Perna played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 12th minute of play. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Graneros was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romeo Frascuelo didn't get a good kick on the ball. 18 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Victorino Tallia. Jonathan Ferrant was out of position in the 26 minute of play, and Victorino Tallia capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Victorino Tallia really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. 28 minutes into the match, Victorino Tallia had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Victorino Tallia was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jose Correa hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Feliberto Otsando made the kick off in the second half. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Victorino Tallia in the 52nd minute of play. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Feliberto Otsando's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. In the 94th minute Christian Lesardo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Graneros walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
