A. Atlanta's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Illescas came free, but Tony Guimarães reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind C. A. Atlanta's goalkeeper Tony Guimarães, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 19 minutes into the match, Tomas Illescas had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tony Guimarães. C. A. Atlanta's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomas Illescas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The referee felt a red card was in order, 23 minutes into the game, when Federico Gil put in a rough tackle. Atlanta's Constantino Bertol slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Jonathan Ferrant. That made the score 1-2 after 45 minutes of play.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Illescas to strike the kick off in the second half. Constantino Bertol received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 55th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tony Guimarães saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 59th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. After 68 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Jose Correa. In the 71st minute, Fermin Mingo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Besart Toto during the 72nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 72 played minutes C. A. Atlanta got a freekick which was hit by Besart Toto. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fermin Mingo, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. After 78 played minutes C. A. Atlanta got a freekick which was hit by Apolo Artizar. Apolo Artizar kicked well hit freekick during the 79th minute of the match. A throw-in in the 81st minute of the game was made by Apolo Artizar with Fermin Mingo as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. After a defensive mix-up in C. A. Atlanta's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tony Guimarães came out of the goal and Tomas Illescas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Apolo Artizar made in the 88th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Fermin Mingo immediately put the ball in play. Fermin Mingo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere.
