Nery Pumpido made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kevin Mastache in the 4th minute of play. Nery Pumpido showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pascual Carballar, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abram Sarmiento in the 8th minute of play. In the 12th minute, Zico Zellier fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Pedro Manzanares, passed just outside the right post. GuateFortín's Severo Rameriz was substituted for Stanyo Búnkov. 18 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's Sven-Edvin Jansson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Pedro Manzanares narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 19th minute Kevin Mastache shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nery Pumpido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nery Pumpido showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Nery Pumpido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Abram Sarmiento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 30 played minutes GuateFortín got a freekick which was hit by Zico Zellier. The supporters of Colombia booed when GuateFortín was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roberto Trotta didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 34th minute, Axel Montenegro made a precise shot to the right of Nery Pumpido. GuateFortín's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Santino Seco in the 39th minute of play forced GuateFortín's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 45th minute, Orlando Tafalla hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

If Zico Zellier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot 90 in the game by Abram Secada from a close distance when the talented Nery Pumpido managed to make a qualified save. GuateFortín's players were relieved. Sven-Edvin Jansson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 93rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
