The INTERNACIONAL DA BAHIA players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Venezuela were winning 0-2.

Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Júlio Mello having to make a save. Serginho Arantes kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. After some careless play in the INTERNACIONAL DA BAHIA defense, Tomas Illescas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Júlio Mello. The INTERNACIONAL DA BAHIA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Júlio Mello should have stopped the shot. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 74th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
