The supporters of Ecuador booed when Politehnica Iasi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Cărtărescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Emilian Feteanu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Cristian Sancho was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 20th minute. Ecuador's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Iurie Trişcu's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Iurie Trişcu helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Politehnica Iasi getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Iurie Trişcu hit a great ball. 24 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Jan Trzenzalski came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 28th minute of the match Politehnica Iasi got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. David Cărtărescu ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 30th minute Tiberiu Dulgherescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. David Cărtărescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Jan Trzenzalski's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. When the match clock showed 39 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Tiberiu Dulgherescu sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Emilian Feteanu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. After 48 minutes Politehnica Iasi's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Luis Andino got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Emilian Feteanu quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Anton Munteanu during the 52nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 52 played minutes Politehnica Iasi got a freekick which was hit by Anton Munteanu. In the 79th minute, Fabian Plopeanu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tiberiu Dulgherescu in the 80th minute. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Emilian Feteanu showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Emilian Feteanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. In the 88th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Emilian Feteanu quite easily take care of the ball. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro got a free kick in the 91st minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Jan Trzenzalski managed to get in a good position for a shot. Politehnica Iasi's supporters rose to their feet, but Jan Trzenzalski was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fabian Plopeanu kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. When the final whistle went the supporters of Politehnica Iasi were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Ecuador side.
