If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Siluna Barra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Vidyo Karakolev got free with Julio Vera in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Daniel Zorita took the ball and in the 32 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Siluna Barra. Siluna Barra dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Marcial Laurenciano in the 35th minute. Julio Vera was out of position in the 35 minute of play, and Tenyo Rizov capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Tenyo Rizov really showed his touch with that goal: 2-1. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Siluna Barra having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Felix Montenegro struck a weak shot in the 51st minute. Siluna Barra didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. The audience was convinced that Marcial Laurenciano's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game.
