The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Seyfi Çırakoğlu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tomas Illescas in the 17th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rafael Flamme saved Italia.1.FCKaiserslautern from getting behind. Torbjörn Asmundsson hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Seyfi Çırakoğlu in the 27th minute. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 31st minute of the match, Seyfi Çırakoğlu got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jonathan Ferrant was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After 35 played minutes Italia.1.FCKaiserslautern got a freekick which was hit by Torbjörn Asmundsson. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Jose Correa hit a great ball. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Shao Xi managed to get in a good position for a shot. Italia.1.FCKaiserslautern's supporters rose to their feet, but Shao Xi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.

Patricio Costa struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Rafael Flamme didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela. Rafael Flamme showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joshua Secada in the 59th minute of the match. In the 61st match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tomas Illescas to maneuver through the defense. After 63 played minutes Italia.1.FCKaiserslautern got a freekick which was hit by Jörg Ehlers. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 71st minute, Seyfi Çırakoğlu made a precise shot to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Tomas Illescas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Rafael Flamme tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Seyfi Çırakoğlu in the 85th minute of play. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Seyfi Çırakoğlu in the 90th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Seyfi Çırakoğlu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Ferrant was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. 96 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Seyfi Çırakoğlu came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
