When Fausto Montel fell near the penalty area in the 2nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rapid Wien's protests and gave Fausto Montel a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Mexico booed when Rapid Wien was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fausto Montel didn't get a good kick on the ball. 3 minutes into the match, Mexico's Lautaro Mancebo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alf Tempel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 8th minute of the match, Joel Gaona tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Alf Tempel saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 13th minute Fausto Montel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Shi Yuan Qi kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. Alf Tempel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 14th minute. With a little luck, Rapid Wien's Alf Tempel got control of the ball when Luca Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. 18 minutes had been played when some careless play by Rapid Wien's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Hagedorn, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. In the 24th minute, Werner Frach hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joel Gaona received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Fausto Montel made a kick off. With a little luck, Mexico's Dante Lacasa got control of the ball when Fausto Montel tried to sneak it across the goal line. Alberto Tafalla fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alf Tempel having to interfere. In the 59th minute, Julius Reuter hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Alberto Tafalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alf Tempel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lautaro Mancebo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shi Yuan Qi, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Shi Yuan Qi in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dante Lacasa saved Mexico from getting behind. Rapid Wien made a substitution. Lars Reicher replaced Andreas Olejarz. Rapid Wien made a substitution. Sergio Skoczylas replaced Daniel Hagedorn. Alf Tempel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lautaro Mancebo in the 83rd minute of play. Mexico's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The referee showed Sergio Skoczylas the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 85 played minutes Rapid Wien got a freekick which was hit by Sergio Skoczylas. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sergio Skoczylas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Joel Gaona recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 91st minute, Rapid Wien's Shi Yuan Qi ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Dante Lacasa. Dante Lacasa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. In the 95th minute Mexico were awarded a corner. Joel Gaona went to the cornerflag to take it. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
