Dong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Deportivo Galicia's Salvador Rojas got a free kick in the 23rd minute. After 23 played minutes, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Dong came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Ecuador reached it. After having played for 25 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Fedele Melani's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Julio Vera firmly grabbed it by the left post. Svanbjörn von den Berg took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Leonel Mesquita to make the kick off. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sven-Åke Granberg in the 56th minute of play. In the 67th minute Sven-Åke Granberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Sven-Åke Granberg came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Deportivo Galicia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sven-Åke Granberg couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Leonel Mesquita in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Merih Demiral during the 77th minute. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 84th minute of the match, but Dong made a huge save. Dong was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Daniel Zorita showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 84 minute of play.
