Jose Correa hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. After 7 played minutes, The Engineers's Eddy Beckett shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in The Engineers reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patricio Costa in the 9th minute of play forced The Engineers's goalkeeper Kieran Floyd to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 10 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Rigoberto Mina. In the 14th minute of the match The Engineers got a corner. Venezuela's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Eddy Beckett ran over to the corner to take the kick. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. Kieran Floyd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 19th minute of play. After 21 minutes, Patricio Costa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Venezuela and the The Engineers players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 21st match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patricio Costa to maneuver through the defense. 22 minutes into the match, Fabinho Pitta dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Jonathan Ferrant, 1-0. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 40th minute, Patricio Costa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tomas Illescas during the 45th minute. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fabinho Pitta was the one to do the kick off. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ludomir Bartochowski fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. Tomas Illescas was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 64th minute. Venezuela's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Kieran Floyd having to make a save. Seyfi Türk hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. Cliff Welch hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. With a little luck, The Engineers's Kieran Floyd got control of the ball when Tomas Illescas tried to sneak it across the goal line. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sebastian Rockett made in the 77th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Seyfi Türk. Jonathan Venegas hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. In the 83rd minute The Engineers were awarded a corner. Eddy Beckett went to the cornerflag to take it. Kieran Floyd made a fantastic save in the 88th minute, when Tomas Illescas sent off a good shot on target. After 89 minutes, Ludomir Bartochowski mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the The Engineers and the Venezuela players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 89th minute, Ludomir Bartochowski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 94th minute The Engineers were awarded a corner. Eddy Beckett went to the cornerflag to take it. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. The Engineers had played much better football throughout.
