Cristian Sancho scored 0-1 in the 8th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Otto Hermansson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lars Olofsson in the 11th minute of play. In the 12th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Otto Hermansson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Otto Hermansson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 13th minute of the match. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Lars Olofsson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Max Mohammad, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 28th minute of play forced Newcastle United FC's goalkeeper Otto Hermansson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Otto Hermansson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the last second Julio Vera throw himself and got hold of the ball when Lars Olofsson in the 33rdth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Otto Hermansson came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Daniel Zorita. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lars Olofsson in the 40th minute. In the 44th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Newcastle United FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Ecuador's Daniel Zorita to fire away a dangerous shot which Otto Hermansson despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 45th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led to Ecuador's Felix Montes getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Julio Vera made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
