The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Raul Brandao tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 29th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Raul Brandao saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as ►Las Mercedes F.C◄'s Diómedes Rodriguez slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Julio Vera. That made the score 1-3 after 30 minutes of play. In the 33rd minute, Daniel Zorita made a precise shot to the right of Raul Brandao. ►Las Mercedes F.C◄'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-4. Raul Brandao came out of the goal in the 40th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Daniel Zorita. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-6. After 45 minutes of play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho made it 1-7 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Raul Brandao was left in no man's land by his defense there! Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-7 lead.

The wind increased when Calito Garcia made the kick off in the second half. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Hermes Pinilla charged in rather forcefully in the 53rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Hermes Pinilla the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 53 played minutes ►Las Mercedes F.C◄ got a freekick which was hit by Hermes Pinilla. The audience was convinced that Cristian Sancho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Raul Brandao was relentless in the 55th minute of the game. Raul Brandao made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Luis Andino came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luis Andino couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in ►Las Mercedes F.C◄'s zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Raul Brandao came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Raul Brandao made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Felix Montenegro sent off a good shot on target. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Felix Montes during the 68th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Felix Montes hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Raul Brandao breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Raul Brandao was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Cristian Sancho showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-9 in the 73 minute of play. Agustín Saelices hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Raul Brandao in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 91st match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Arias to maneuver through the defense.
