In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA's goalkeeper Konrad Tøndergaard, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The wind increased when Tomas Illescas made the kick off in the second half. Sidónio Silva took the ball and in the 59 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jonathan Ferrant. Jonathan Ferrant dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 79th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Konrad Tøndergaard. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head. With an all-out effort, Venezuela's Konrad Tøndergaard threw himself towards the right post 81 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Patricio Costa, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Patricio Costa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Konrad Tøndergaard read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 83rd minute of play. 84 minutes into the match, Oswaldo Salmanton had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Oswaldo Salmanton was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. In the 88th minute, SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Tomas Illescas fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Tomas Illescas struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Konrad Tøndergaard didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela. Normando Vilas Boas was shown his second yellow card after 94 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA had played much better football throughout.
