Thanks to some nice moves Comunardo Giancristofaro could shoot a difficult shot in the 20th minute, which Marcos Cotilla however easily saved by the left post. With a little luck, Panama's Marcos Cotilla got control of the ball when Eraldo Bertolini tried to sneak it across the goal line. Marcos Cotilla showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberigo Basile in the 34th minute of the match. Marcos Cotilla made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Anselmo Martano sent off a good shot on target. Comunardo Giancristofaro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Marcos Cotilla made a huge save.

They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Panama would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
