After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Albino Asteri kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Armando Rosalio tried to sneak it across the goal line. Armando Rosalio succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 4-1 in the 46th playminute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-1.

After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Armando Rosalio in the 53rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ramon Shantala, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Ramon Shantala kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. A collision led to Mercado Paulista F.C getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Fabricio Tohias hit a great ball. The supporters of Mercado Paulista F.C booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball. With 74 minutes on the clock, Abel Carballo commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Alan Moruga charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alan Moruga the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 89th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alan Moruga to maneuver through the defense. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Armando Rosalio, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. After 98 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alan Moruga.
