The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Claudinei Velloso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luis Andino hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Claudinei Velloso in the 51st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Evelio Urbasa in the 54th minute of the match. In the 55th match minute, Prochnost was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matías Kranevitter to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Ecuador's Cristian Sancho slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Claudinei Velloso. That made the score 0-2 after 64 minutes of play. In the 69th minute, Matías Suárez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Evelio Urbasa in the 74th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind.
