Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sixten Apelqvist having to interfere. 6 minutes into the match, AC Milan's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Sixten Apelqvist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sixten Apelqvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. In the 9th minute, Daniel Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sixten Apelqvist was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Sixten Apelqvist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sixten Apelqvist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 19th minute of the match. In the 22nd match minute, AC Milan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kjell-Arne Gunnarsson to maneuver through the defense. In the 23rd minute of the match Daniel Zorita shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sixten Apelqvist showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 26 minutes into the game, Antonio Arias was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave AC Milan the free kick. In the 26th minute, one of Ecuador:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Ecuador. Ecuador:s Julio Vera showed great skill when he stopped Per Åberg:s penalty. Per Åberg scored 1-1 in the 28th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Luis Andino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 42nd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sixten Apelqvist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sixten Apelqvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Sixten Apelqvist came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Cristian Sancho. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. After 47 minutes, Per Åberg mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the AC Milan and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to AC Milan getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Per Åberg hit a great ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sören Klemensson made a kick off. AC Milan's Sixten Apelqvist proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save AC Milan from getting a goal against them. In the 53rd minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Ecuador's Daniel Zorita to fire away a dangerous shot which Sixten Apelqvist despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The supporters of AC Milan booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 62nd minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sixten Apelqvist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 63th minute after AC Milan's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. It was a well-played corner which Juan Sebastián Puig managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Per Åberg succeeded in the game's 66th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 2-3. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sixten Apelqvist breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 73 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. AC Milan's Sixten Apelqvist proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save AC Milan from getting a goal against them. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bo Carlsson in the 80th minute of the match. A hard shot 83 in the game by Cristian Sancho from a close distance when the talented Sixten Apelqvist managed to make a qualified save. AC Milan's players were relieved. In the 86th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play.
