The throw-in from Marco Vigil in the 14th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Peru's Eliseo Mina. In the 15th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marco Veto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th minute, Carolo Goito reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Rolando Noboa. The goal made the score 1-0. Julian Murillo struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Marco Veto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Peru. Oscar Furlan's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Rolando Noboa firmly grabbed it by the left post.
