Gugu da Fonseca hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. The long shot by Wilton de Amaral in the 4th minute really tested Rômulo Sampaio's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Rafinha Furlan hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. SAO JOANENSE FC's Rômulo Sampaio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 6th minute of the match, managed to save SAO JOANENSE FC from getting a goal against them. Aírton Oliveira's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 12thth minute, Rômulo Sampaio skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Aírton Oliveira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Rômulo Sampaio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. SAO JOANENSE FC's Rômulo Sampaio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luizão Peixoto in the 27th minute of play. Angelo Magalhães kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Gugu da Fonseca's late challenge caught a Karaboudjan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gugu da Fonseca helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Karaboudjan booed when SAO JOANENSE FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gugu da Fonseca didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jefferson do Vale showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Augusto Messias in the 42nd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Wilton de Amaral in the 43rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rômulo Sampaio prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With his leg Rômulo Sampaio managed to avoid a goal in the 44thth minute, when Karaboudjan's Wilton de Amaral fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After a rather tough play, SAO JOANENSE FC's Angelo Magalhães got a free kick in the 46th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Wilton de Amaral to make the kick off. Rômulo Sampaio came out of the goal in the 53rd minute to try and stop a shot by Karaboudjan's Aírton Oliveira. But to his dismay, Aírton Oliveira quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Rômulo Sampaio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luizão Peixoto in the 57th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aírton Oliveira in the 62nd minute of play forced SAO JOANENSE FC's goalkeeper Rômulo Sampaio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Karaboudjan's Wilton de Amaral in the 63rd minute got a chance for a shot 63rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye SAO JOANENSE FC's goalie prevented a goal. Luizão Peixoto struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Rômulo Sampaio didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Karaboudjan. In the 69th minute Aírton Oliveira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rômulo Sampaio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 75 played minutes Karaboudjan got a freekick which was hit by Almir da Fonseca. After having played for 81 minutes, Wilton de Amaral managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Karaboudjan's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wilton de Amaral was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Angelo Magalhães hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Wilton de Amaral in the 92nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rômulo Sampaio saved SAO JOANENSE FC from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Wilton de Amaral managed to get in a good position for a shot. Karaboudjan's supporters rose to their feet, but Wilton de Amaral was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rômulo Sampaio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Karaboudjan's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
