Evelio Antoniano didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alberto Tafalla went, in the 10th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. 15 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Bieito Villaurreta came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bieito Villaurreta in the 18th minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 19 minutes, Lautaro Mancebo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mexico's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lautaro Mancebo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Bieito Villaurreta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Laurentzi in the 27th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Laurentzi came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Criciúma Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Usub Raha hit a great ball. 38 minutes into the match, Criciúma Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Evelio Antoniano had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alberto Tafalla. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alberto Tafalla in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Evelio Antoniano saved Criciúma Esporte Clube from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Criciúma Esporte Clube's zone, Alberto Tafalla stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Evelio Antoniano came out of the goal and Alberto Tafalla tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bieito Villaurreta was the one to do the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bieito Villaurreta. Joel Gaona sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match had gone on for 63 minutes, Luca Zorita put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Evelio Antoniano. In the 68th minute, Vasile Curagãu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Criciúma Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Gaztea Regalado hit a great ball. The supporters of Criciúma Esporte Clube booed when Mexico was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Facundo Cadaval didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 85th minute of the match Mexico got a corner. Criciúma Esporte Clube's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Joel Gaona ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led to Mexico's Lorenzo Cazalla getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. 87 minutes into the match, Criciúma Esporte Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Tafalla came free, but Evelio Antoniano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mexico's Lautaro Mancebo got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alberto Tafalla struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Evelio Antoniano didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. In the 93rd minute, Alberto Tafalla made a precise shot to the right of Evelio Antoniano. Criciúma Esporte Clube's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Mexico fully deserved thier win.
